Sensory Characteristics:

  • Notes of lime, grapefruit, pear, melon, saline
  • Light to medium body
  • Medium plus to high acidity
  • Typically low to medium in alcohol

Food Pairings:

  • A very food-friendly wine.  Pairs well with shellfish, fish, cheese, omelets, etc.

History:

  • Origin of the grape is uncertain.
  • May be a cousin to Malvasia.

Notes:

  • Known as Pigato in Liguria and Favorita in Piedmont. 
  • Although it is known as Rolle in Provence, DNA evidence is unclear as to whether the two are identical.
